Greetings! My name is Heather and my husband's name is James (Jimmy). We have a wonderful blessing, Poseidon (Sei) he is truly the light of our lives. Many would say that our boy is spoiled, I prefer to think that he is treated as a member of the family. (Little background info) I grew up in South Texas riding and showing horses in the hunter jumper ring. When I finished high school I was ready for a grand adventure and joined the United States Coast Guard and boy did I get it! During my military service I met my husband and the love of my life. In 2008 I got out of the Coast Guard and pursed other career paths after utilizing my GI Bill to further my education. This allowed me to have the career that I have today; I'm extremely grateful for all the opportunities that the Coast Guard allowed me to gain. Jimmy is still currently active duty in the United States Coast Guard (for another 18 months give or take). The Coast Guard has given us the opportunity to live all over the country, we truly enjoy going and seeing new and interesting places. We will miss the Coast Guard when this journey comes to a close; however, my career has thrown in a curve ball and relocated us to Nashville Tennessee! Wow, we are really looking forward to living up the country life and all the joys that it brings. Jimmy and I both grew up as dog lovers, but it took some convincing to bring a puppy in to our family. After four long years of begging and sometimes pleading, I finally talked Jimmy into our little bundle of joy Bocephus. He was the start of our love for mastiffs, he was a truly amazing boy that made our house a home. I have always been a bit dog crazy, but the mastiff breed has genuinely captured my heart. I am completely obsessed with mastiffs.
After having Bocephus for a year I talked my husband into a second mastiff. To be honest I am still surprised that I was able to do so. I had heard the saying, “Mastiffs are like potato chips you can’t just have one,” well it is true. As much as we love Bullmastiffs we wanted to experience another type of mastiff. Hence, we picked Hooch (Dogue De Bordeaux). However, Hooch's story is a sad one. He was taken from us way too soon, we too soon were back to a single dog house hold.
After months of "begging" I was able to talk Jimmy into another DDB puppy! He joined our family on my birthday! Hey a girl couldn't ask for a better Birthday present. Poseidon has filled our house with his love and playfulness, you couldn't ask for a sweeter boy. Truly a heart of gold. Two and half years after we brought Poseidon home we lost our beloved Bocephus. We are back to a single dog house hold temporarily, as we plan to bring a baby boy home soon.
We take our boy everywhere with us; we take him out to dinner, go to parades, sporting events, festivals, doggie events, and even on vacation. Poseidon is a very well socialized, well-mannered dog. It is imperative Mastiffs are socialize and well mannered, as they are very big dogs. Mastiffs in general are excellent in all sorts of situations all around EXCELLENT dogs, if they are trained properly.
Our lives and family changed the day that we brought our first mastiff home, it simply wouldn’t be the same without them. We are not doing this for the money, we are doing it to better the breed; therefore, each mate will be chosen with care according to breed standards, health screenings and personality. We are extremely selective in the process, and will not mate our boy to just any female. If you are serious about using our boy as a stud then we will likely asking a ton of questions.
Thank you, for taking the time to learn about Master’s Guardians. Please feel free to contact me with any questions.
